Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgical procedures can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids. Upper eyelid plastic surgery procedures are one of the most common aesthetic plastic surgery procedures. Skin loses its elasticity with increasing age and eventually becomes droopy and the fatty deposits start sticking out with patients often complaining of appearing “tired”. In some instances this can be so pronounced that the eyesight of the patient becomes impaired.
Eyelid surgical procedures are performed under local anaesthetic and are sometimes carried out using sedatives. The excess skin and fatty tissues are surgically removed. After surgery the eyes are covered using a cooling compress in order to reduce swelling and discoloring. A certain amount of swelling and discoloration is however normal. The healing process is rapid and stitches can be removed after just a few days.
Convalescence periods vary but rarely exceed one week.
Complications due to surgery are rare. In rare cases any unevenness present can be easily be corrected.
