Liposuction

Liposuction is not a weight loss method but rather a procedure that compliments such methods and one which is performed in order to create a better and more proportional body contour for areas of the body which may prove hard to improve through traditional weight loss.

Liposuction is usually used on the thighs, stomach areas, knees, hips and the underside of chins. This technique involves extracting fat cells using suction providing long lasting and permanent results. Liposuction is an excellent compliment to other plastic surgery techniques such as abdominoplasty.

The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic if only small areas are being treated. The fat cells are extracted through a plastic tube via a small incision in the skin.

After surgery it is common that the patient experiences swelling and bruising of the skin which does however disappear after a few weeks. Various types of compressive bandages are used to assist healing including cycling pants following liposuction of the thighs.

Liposuction complications aside from general surgical complications include unevenness of the skin which can usually be rectified by carrying out additional liposuction procedures.

Patients usually return home on the day of surgery and remain at home for a number of days before returning to work.
